Witnessed
Wolf, Bullet, 2006-10-21

Again we, the Club Aska heroes, put up another show in Örebro, 2 weeks after having the successful evening with Sabaton in mind. Wolf is releasing their new album any day now (or already did so, fuck if I knew) and decided to have their hometown release party with us. Supporting them is Bullet, a band who’s getting quite some following.
Bullet sounds like a the bastard kid of AC/DC and Accept, together with some hints of Iron Maiden, and the good thing is that they do it really fucken well. And I mean really fucken well. Guitarist Hampus not only sports the ugliest hairdo around, he also moves around a bit like Angus Young while playing, except for the silly trademark walk that Angus is using, thank fucken all things satanic.
I’m not very familiar with any of these guys material, it’s not like I can start humming some choruses or anything on command but I certainly didn’t expect Bullet to throw on such a good show to be perfectly Frank Shamrock with you. The walrus doing vocals really got a strong voice, doing his best to sound like Udo Fagschneider and Bon Scott/Brian Johnson, and definitely succeeds doing it. As if that wasn’t enough, this guy probably holds the world record in throwing the horns during a gig. Fantastic.
It really shows that Bullet loves playing on stage. And it really shows people appreciate them since a few die hard fans sang along the entire gig. Bullet live is a fucken party. A party complete with handing out the guitar necks to the crowd during certain sections, to make them a bigger part of the show. It might not sound awesome, but the gesture is very metal and feels genuine. Bullet suprised me this time around and deserve a fucken 8 out of 10 for their show.
Then we have Wolf, probably Örebro’s biggest export musicwise when it comes to metal. I’m going to be Frank Shamrock again and admit I didn’t see more than a few songs due to having some other things to do (beer is involved). Wolf is metal through and through. Bassist Mumlan does his best to be Steve Harris, and is doing a good job with it. “New” drummer Tobbe is a great drummer with some fantastic power in his playing. This guy knows how to hit them drums hard. Guitarist Johannes and guitarist/vocalist Niklas knows their shit as well, while Johannes is the one executing the more poses, obviously since Niklas is occupied singing most of the time. While I’m not that big a fan of this guy on the albums his voice sounded better live than expected.
In the middle of the set something really cool happens… All focus is taken away from stage as some lights to the left starts shining and smoke appears… In comes Death, complete with a scythe, a white face and his black robe. And not only does Death look metal, he can also sing. Some 30 seconds later Death exits and focus is returned to the stage. Excellent move by Wolf, giving the crowd something more than yer average band.
Wolf know what they are doing, that’s for sure. Working class metal in its purest form. I enjoyed Bullet more though, probably becoz it looked like they had more fun on stage. Wolf was in no way even close to weak though. 7,5/10.
And then the afterparty… Well, we didn’t exactly party with the bands this time around but noticed that Wolf bailed shortly after the gig… No one from either of the bands were around the place at 6 in the morning when me and Club Aska colleague Jan decided it was time to call it quits. And the flat where Bullet stayed was all silent (the kids were sleeping), so no party on their part.
As predicted in the Sabaton report, we won this time as well. And we are not surprised.
Club Aska vs The Bands: 3-0
